Cycling routes
The Easter Ross Peninsula offers a great variety of cycle routes with beautiful scenery and light traffic. You could plan a wonderful week of cycling from The Mandrel. Here are some ideas.
1. A local loop around the peninsula using Fearn and Balintore as Garmin waypoints. 22 miles/35 km. Coffee stop The Seaboard Memorial Hall.
2. A local loop around the peninsula using Lochslin and Balintore as Garmin waypoints. 15 miles/24 km. Coffe stop The Seaboard Memorial Hall.
3. Cycle to Nigg Ferry (15 miles) to catch the ferry for lunch in Cromarty in the summer months and back again. 30 miles/48 km.
4. Cycle to Nigg Ferry, catch the ferry to Cromarty, cycle to Dingwall and back along the north side of the Cromarty Firth via Evanton and Alness. Quiet roads avoiding the A9. 75 miles/ 120 km. Stop at Dalmore Farm Shop for lunch.
5. A route into the hills using Tain, Edderton, Aultnamain, Ardross, Kildary, Arabella and Fearn as Garmin waypoints. 50 miles/80 km. Stop in Tain for coffee and to pick up a picnic to have above Edderton overlooking the Dornoch Firth.
