Dornoch and Dunrobin Castle

A trip to Dornoch and Dunrobin Castle makes for a great day out.

Dornoch is a very pretty town with historic buildings hewn from the local sandstone and a wonderful beach.

Dornoch Castle, in the centre of town, is now a hotel. Its neighbour, the old jail, is now a retail outlet, Jail Dornoch, selling quality clothing and accessories over two floors. There are also numerous independent shops including a hardware store and antiques shop.

Opposite is the magnificent Dornoch Cathedral, open to visitors during daylight hours.

Eat out at Luigi or pick up a takeaway at Surf and Turf to eat on the expansive golden beach.

Dunrobin Castle is an imposing building, in a wonderful coastal location with famous gardens which were inspired by the Palace of Versailles. It is the ancestral home of the Dukes of Sutherland and is still owned and occupied by the family. Book a tour.
