Portmahomack
Portmahomack is a historic fishing village which is now a vibrant seaside town. Its wide sandy beach, with the harbour at one end and rock pools at the other, offers hours of family entertainment.
Shops
The village shop is a great local facility and very well stocked in most things you will need for a self-catering holiday. They also hire out kayaks and paddleboards for you to launch off from the beach or slipway.
The nearest supermarkets are in Tain where you will find Tesco, Lidl and Aldi.
Eating and drinking
The Castle Inn 01862 871345
The town's pub, the Castle Inn in the centre of town, is a lively place to have a drink or a meal. The pub is open daily for drinks and food is served from Wednesday to Sunday. Good pub fare and a warm atmosphere.

Located in the Golf Club but open to everyone for food to eat in or take away. Great fish and chips!

A seafood restaurant on the sea front offering a wonderful fine dining experience. Open on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays from May to October. Booking essential.

Events
There is a great community spirit in Portmahomack, or 'The Port' as it is known locally. The town puts on an annual gala week in the last week of July with daily activities.
The Carnegie Hall was opened in 1902 and is still the centre of community social and cultural events. You may be lucky enough to find a family ceilidh coinciding with your visit.
