Portmahomack
Portmahomack is a historic fishing village which is now a vibrant seaside town. Its wide sandy beach with the harbour at one end and rock pools at the other offers hours of family entertainment.
The town has a shop - the Port Stores - where you will find everything you need for your self-catering holiday. They also hire out kayaks and paddleboards for you to launch off from the beach or slipway.
The town's pub, the Castle Inn in the centre of town, is a lively place to have a drink or a meal. Food is also available to eat in or take away at the Portmahomack Bistro which is located in the golf club, not just for members. For a special occasion treat yourself to a meal at the Oystercatcher seafood restaurant on the sea front, open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from May to October. Booking is essential. The Carnegie Hall was opened in 1902 and is still the centre of community social and cultural events. Its cafe offers light bites and bakes Monday to Saturday 10-4.
There is a great community spirit in Portmahomack, or 'The Port' as it is known locally. The town puts on an annual gala week in the last week of July with daily activities.
